NSW Athletes Representing Australia at Asia-Oceania Sitting Volley Zone Championships

Volleyball NSW proudly congratulates four outstanding NSW athletes who recently represented Australia at the ParaVolley Asia-Oceania Sitting Volleyball Zone Championships, held in Hangzhou, China from 9–14 June 2025.

Flying the flag for NSW were Bronwyn McColl, Megan McKee, Mikayla Tuppurainen and Japhy Duldig, who demonstrated exceptional growth, determination, and competitive spirit throughout the tournament. Both the Australian men’s and women’s teams finished in 7th place, but their performances reflected significant progress and a strong foundation for future success.

A standout moment came when the Australian Men’s Team secured their first international win since the Sydney 2000 Olympics. In a thrilling five-set match against Saudi Arabia—who had defeated them the previous year—the Aussie men went onto the court with focus and determination, ultimately claiming a well-earned victory and a major milestone for the program.

Reflecting on the experience, NSW athlete and Men’s Team captain Japhy Duldig shared:

“The Asian Oceania Sitting Volleyball Championships was a fantastic experience and even more memorable with us having our most successful tournament in decades. I am incredibly proud to be able to play and represent Australia on the world stage and very honoured to be chosen as men's team captain and the responsibilities it brings.
It has been a great start for the team as we build towards Brisbane 2032, and I'm looking forward to more opportunities to improve and develop my skills and be able to showcase them in the green and gold.”

These athletes have been training as part of the Volleyball NSW Sitting Volleyball Program, launched in late 2024. This initiative provides ongoing training opportunities for athletes across the state and aims to grow participation in sitting volleyball throughout NSW. The program not only supports athlete development but also serves as a pathway to national and international competition.

Volleyball NSW is incredibly proud of our athletes’ achievements and looks forward to supporting their continued journey on the world stage.
