Pride in Motion: Freezone Heads to the Gay Games Valencia 2026

This Pride Month, we’re celebrating more than just participation - we’re celebrating representation, community, and pride on the global stage.
Sixteen Sydney athletes from Freezone Volleyball Club are set to represent their community at the Gay Games Valencia 2026 - one of the world’s largest inclusive sporting events.
Taking place from 27 June to 4 July 2026, the Gay Games will bring together 9,000+ athletes from over 70 countries, united by a shared commitment to inclusion, diversity, and the joy of sport.
Our Freezone athletes embody that spirit. From first-time international competitors to seasoned players, this group showcases the strength and diversity of Sydney’s LGBTQIA+community and allies - all proudly stepping onto the world stage.
With 148 teams, 500+ matches, and six days of competition, volleyball at Valencia promises to be one of the biggest tournaments in Gay Games history - played across four divisions to ensure accessibility for athletes of all levels.
But as Freezone President Andrew Wilmot puts it:
“The Gay Games are about much more than competition. They’reabout showing up as you are, representingyour community, and being part of a global movement built on inclusion, diversityand personal best.”- Andrew Wilmont, Freezone President
For the past 12 months, these athletes have been putting in the work - training, competing, and building towards this moment. Their journey reflects the ongoing growth of inclusive sport in Australiaand the importance of spaces where everyone can belong.
This Pride Month, we celebrate them — and every athlete who continuouslyshows up authentically, plays proudly, and inspires change through sport.
๐๐ Good luck in Valencia, Freezone - we’re behind you all the way!
