Para Sports: Volleyball

Published Mon 27 Mar 2023

Volleyball NSW enjoyed being involved in the Activation Inclusion Sports Day (AISD) at Blacktown Leisure Centre on Thursday March 23 and the Paralympic Multi Sports Day at Newcastle University on Saturday March 25.

We are grateful to Kristy Rohrer and Rae Anderson from AISD and Sarah Skidmore from Paralympics Australia for their delivery and involvement in these amazing events and programs, which give back to the community. Everybody should have the opportunity to participate in volleyball, and VNSW will continue to make volleyball as accessible as possible.

In term 2, VNSW will engage in more Activation Inclusion Sports days. Further details will be provided later.

Activation Inclusion Sports Day (AISD): Thursday March 23, 2023

At Blacktown Leisure Centre, Volleyball NSW, and Affiliated club Just Spike It Academy collaborated to deliver Adaptive Volleyball to over 100 students from five local schools. The purpose of this program is to provide local opportunities to engage and have fun with sport for school students with disabilities.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our JSI team members, Pinyan, Kevin, and Charlotte for leading such fun and high-energy sessions for the students. It was great to see the students so excited to play volleyball, and I would like to thank the coaches at JSI and the club for putting themselves forward for this program.

Paralympics Multi Sport Days: Saturday March 25, 2023

At the Multi Sports Day at Newcastle University, Volleyball NSW along with Affiliated club Hunter Volleyball offered a Sitting Volleyball experience. Multi-sports days provide an opportunity for members of the disability community to engage in a wide variety of sports.

Special mention should be made to Michelle and Pierre of the Hunter team, who provided such an engaging and enjoyable sitting volleyball experience. Playing sitting volleyball was both fun and easy for the participants, and they were eager to have more sitting volleyball games.

It is with great appreciation that VNSW wishes to thank both our Affiliated Clubs, Hunter Volleyball and Just Spike it Academy, for their involvement in the events. Without your assistance, neither of these events would have been possible.

Our disability community greatly benefits from these events and opportunities. Bringing sports to them enriches their lives and builds a sense of belonging and community in them. Everyone, regardless of ability, can participate in sport and have a good time. As opportunities arise, VNSW looks forward to participating in them as well as supporting the expansion and promotion of adaptive and sitting volleyball in New South Wales.
