SYDNEY VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE - FINALS REVIEW
22 MATCHES PLAYED OVER 6 COURTS IN 12 HOURS
What a thrilling day of volleyball with some nail biting finishes, divisional upsets and big wins across the Sunday.
Sydney Volleyball League stayed on course to make finals day an amazing day of everyone involved.
Match of the Day: Womens Premier - Sydney University vs Vostok Volleyball
The expectation was set for Sydney University to continue with thier undefeated season and take home the gold. Vostok wasn't going to let that happen easily and ensured that the crowed had something to cheer about. This match went down to the wire, going to 5 sets but Sydney University toook every opportunity in the 5th set winning to ensure they won GOLD.
In the Mens Premier match, Sydney University vs Illawarra was a tussle from the start. Illawarra took first set and really dug deep, but Sydney University who have played consistently all season brought it back in the second set. This match could have gone either way, but it seems like when the men from Illawrra made the trek up the coast on Sunday morning they brought their fans with them and gave them something to cheer about. Going to a nail biting 5th set and winning it and taking that elusive Mens Premier trophy out of Sydney.
A huge shout out to the NSW Volleyball Referees Association. This was our biggest season yet and whilst we say that every year, the task of organising the officials is one that doesnt go unnoticed.
Congratulations to the following referees for a wonderful year:
- Most Improved Referee of the Year - Hailey Van Vreumingen
- Rookie Referee of the Year - Bianca Infante
- Referee of the Year - Jayden Norsworthy
Volleyball NSW would like to thank everyone involved this season from the coaches, players, officials and spectators.
