Club of the Week: UTS Volleyball Club

Community connection sits at the heart of everything UTS Volleyball Club stands for. As a proudly volunteer-driven club, it’s the people behind the scenes- coaches, organisers, families, and players giving their time- that shape an environment where everyone feels welcome, supported, and inspired to grow. It’s this shared commitment that builds a culture extending far beyond wins and results, creating a club experience that lasts a lifetime.

During National Volunteer Week, it’s only fitting that we recognise one of the individuals who embodies that spirit so strongly.

Volunteer Spotlight: Michelle Lin

Junior Girls Head Coach | Board Volunteer | Junior Development Head Coach
11 years with UTS Volleyball Club

Michelle Lin’s contribution to UTS Volleyball Club is nothing short of exceptional. Over more than a decade, and particularly throughout the past eight years, she has dedicated countless hours to developing junior athletes, both on and off the court. Whether coaching junior girls' teams, contributing as a board member, or helping shape the club’s junior development program, Michelle’s reliability, leadership, and generosity have made her a cornerstone of the UTS community.

Her impact extends well beyond the club. Through her work across school volleyball programs- from Sporting Schools sessions with primary students to coaching competitive GPS and Catholic high school teams- Michelle has introduced and nurtured athletes at every stage of the game. She has played a vital role in bridging the gap between school and club volleyball, helping young players transition confidently into more competitive pathways while fostering an environment where they feel both supported and challenged.

Michelle’s journey is a true reflection of the UTS Volleyball Club pathway in action. Starting as a junior player, she progressed through to Premier Women’s, where she captained the team, while also competing at state level and in the Australian Volleyball League. Today, she channels that experience into mentoring the next generation- guiding athletes not just in performance, but in confidence, resilience, and belonging.

Her coaching achievements speak volumes, including six State Volleyball League grand final victories with junior girls' teams, alongside five years supporting the club’s junior development program. But beyond results, it’s her commitment to giving back and strengthening the future of the club that truly defines her impact.

“Having come through the UTS pathway as a junior player myself, I understand how important those early experiences and opportunities can be for young athletes. Being able to now coach and support players through that same journey is something I’m really proud to be part of.”

UTS Volleyball Club’s strength lies in people like Michelle- volunteers who invest their time, knowledge, and passion to build something bigger than themselves. This National Volunteer Week, we celebrate not only her contributions, but all those who help make clubs like UTS such powerful hubs of community, connection, and opportunity.
