Volleyball NSW Launches New Club Toolkit to Support Clubs Across NSW
Published Tue 18 Aug 2026

Volleyball in New South Wales has never been bigger.
Over the past five years, participation has grown by more than 150%, with over 10,500 registered members, more than 20,000 people connected to the volleyball community and 60+ affiliated clubs delivering volleyball experiences across the state. Volleyball continues to be one of the most diverse sports in NSW, with members representing more than 100 nationalities, a balanced player gender split and participants ranging from five to 75 years of age.
That growth is something to celebrate, but it also brings new challenges.
As more people discover volleyball, the demands on volunteers, committee members, coaches, officials and club leaders continue to increase. Strong participation growth requires strong clubs, and strong clubs need practical tools, resources and support to keep pace.
As Volleyball NSW developed Our Sport. Our Plan. 2026-2029, clubs consistently told us they needed more support in areas such as governance, volunteer recruitment and retention, communications, planning, funding and club sustainability. Those conversations helped shape our strategic plan and reinforced a simple truth: if we want stronger volleyball communities, we need to invest in the people and clubs that make our sport possible every day.
Investing in Stronger Foundations
The release of the Club Toolkit has also been supported through the NSW Office of Sport's Organisational Support Program (OSP).
Over the past two years, OSP investment has enabled Volleyball NSW to strengthen governance, strategic planning, financial management, integrity systems and organisational capability. It has supported the organisation's transition from a delivery-focused model to a more mature, sustainable and strategically aligned organisation capable of supporting long-term growth across the sport.
Importantly, this work is not just about strengthening Volleyball NSW.
As participation has grown, so too has the need for stronger systems, better governance and greater support across the volleyball ecosystem. The Club Toolkit is a practical example of that investment in action. It takes the lessons, frameworks and capability-building work undertaken through Volleyball NSW's own organisational development and translates them into practical resources that clubs can use every day.
Introducing the Volleyball NSW Club Toolkit
Volleyball NSW is proud to launch the Volleyball NSW Club Toolkit, a free collection of practical resources designed to help clubs strengthen their operations, build capability and create more sustainable futures. The Club Toolkit is one of the first major deliverables under Our Sport. Our Plan. and has been built to support the volunteers, committee members, coaches and administrators who continue to drive our sport forward.
The Toolkit provides practical resources, templates and guidance across key areas including:
- Governance and club planning
- Volunteer, coach and workforce development
- Communications and marketing
- Funding and grants
- Volleyball pathways and strategic planning
- Club sustainability and growth
Rather than lengthy reports or complex frameworks, the Toolkit focuses on practical resources that clubs can access immediately, adapt to their local environment and use to support their ongoing development.
Putting Our People First
The launch of the Club Toolkit reflects Volleyball NSW's commitment to the first pillar of Our Sport. Our Plan. - Putting Our People First. Every priority within the strategic plan was shaped by conversations with the volleyball community and built around improving the experience of the people who deliver our sport: players, coaches, officials, volunteers and clubs.
Volleyball NSW Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Walter said the Toolkit is about supporting the people who make volleyball happen every week across the state.
"Our clubs are the heart of volleyball in New South Wales. Behind every team, competition and participation opportunity is a group of volunteers and leaders giving their time to create experiences for others."
"Throughout the development of Our Sport. Our Plan., clubs told us what they needed most. They wanted practical support that would help volunteers and committees spend less time creating documents from scratch and more time growing volleyball in their communities."
"This toolkit is designed to help clubs navigate the challenges that come with growth. Whether it's governance, communications, volunteer recruitment, planning or funding, our goal is simple: make it easier for clubs to succeed."
Just the Beginning
The Club Toolkit is not the finish line. It is the beginning. Volleyball NSW sees the Toolkit as the first step in a broader commitment to building stronger clubs across New South Wales. Additional resources, workshops, education opportunities and hands-on support initiatives will continue to be developed as the organisation delivers on the priorities outlined in Our Sport. Our Plan.
As Volleyball NSW works towards its ambition of reaching 20,000 members by 2030, strong clubs will remain central to the future success of the sport. The Club Toolkit is one way we are investing in that future, supporting clubs to build the foundations needed to continue serving their communities and growing the game across New South Wales.
